Energetic, fearless, and strong,
the Black Cur is valued as an all-around working dog bred to help farmers and hunters. The breed can herd livestock, protect the home, and track game; although, these dogs also have a sensitive side that doesn’t respond well to harsh rebukes or punishment. Behind the bar hangs a massive portrait of our late dog, Rio, a black mouth cur and our inspiration behind the restaurant’s name.

At BLACK CUR STEAK we serve simple, rustic steakhouse fare in a very comfortable space with handcrafted tables made with antique black walnut. Our oak and mesquite grilled steak selections include a perfectly cooked bistro steak served with super crisp frites and rich gorgonzola aioli. BLACK CUR STEAK is known for a variety of wonderful dishes such as our world famous RANCHO LOMA spicy grilled quail, a tender poached branzino and Laurie’s pillowy ricotta gnocchi topped with a pork and veal bolognese.

All of the wines we serve are sourced from Alexander Vineyards in Fredericksburg, delicious boutique European varietals including a sensational white Bordeaux that pairs perfectly with the gnocchi, a powerful Grand Cru St. Emilion doing justice to the wood-grilled steaks and a crisp Picolit is truly delectable with the pecan bread pudding for dessert. Signature cocktails such as our riff on a Paloma and our personal favorite the Anchaloma (named after Rio’s littermate) is crafted with fresh grapefruit juice, Del Maguey mescal, rimmed with Tajin and dried jalapeño.

We look forward to welcoming you into our new restaurant and cooking for you over our open hearth.

Black Cur Steak adds to the Coleman dining scene

“the steak bistro offers a smart menu of small and large plates. An early sampling found beautiful oak-and-mesquite-grilled cuts like an 18-ounce prime rib-eye (from 1855 Black Angus beef), served with crunchy, wisp-thin onion rings and sinful kale gratin..”
